Ørsta lies centralin the heart of the Sunnmørealps, on the southern part of Sunnmøre in Møre & Romsdal. Ørsta has got around 10350 inhabitants, where about 6500 live in Ørsta City. Ørsta has got a versatile industry with amongst others, furniture, steel and foodproduction as the most important business. In the past years, tourism has become an important area. Together with Volda, Ørsta makes a regional center with 20.000 inhabitants, colleges, universities, hospitals and an airport with daily departures to and from Oslo and Bergen.

Ørsta is with its 820 Km2 the biggest municipal in Møre & Romsdal, and makes a natural diversity of salmonrivers, beautiful fjords and majestetic mountains. Here you have the options of a versatile outdoor life all year round.

Culture

In year 2000, Ørsta was elected the cultural municipal of Møre & Romsdal. Ørsta has got about 350 organisations and associations. In Hovdebygda you can find a national center for new Norwegian language and writing culture, Ivar Aasen Tunet, which was opened in june 2000, and is drawed by the world known arcitect Sverre Fehn.

The new Norwegian cultural festival is arranged the last week in june every year.
